What’s all the fuss about the 5K?

Irrespective of your current fitness levels, the 5K distance is an achievable goal for most, in a relatively short period of time.

My own journey into road running started with 5K races in Gozo, once I retired from Rugby in 2018, and before I knew it I was looking at 10K, trails, half marathons, full marathons and now I am even thinking about ticking an ultra marathon off the bucket list.

Of course, this is my personal experience and maybe your running experience will not evolve in this manner. However, I am sure that once you get the hang of it you will be wanting more.

For many, just taking part in a local 5K race is enough of a goal. And I tend to agree.

The benefits are countless. The adrenaline rush of a start line, the endorphin release of exercise and the friendly competition provides us a natural healthy high our bodies crave. Apart from that, you will surely feel the below:

Increase in energy levels ✅️

Decrease the chance of cardiovascular diseases like Coronary Heart Disease ✅️

Decrease in body fat ✅️

Increase in lean muscle tone ✅️

Increase in blood vessel elasticity which helps preventing collapse and stroke ✅️

Mental release and escape from daily responsabilities ✅️

Increase in flexibility & mobility during later life ✅️

I would encourage anyone who is physically able to apply for the Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon 5K Race and no matter the finish time, you will experience a thrill like no other. I am sure you will thank me later.

See you all in April!
